Lou Ann Cunningham

GOTEM FIT Instructor

I am a married mom of two kids, ages 13 and 9.  We moved to Olathe 10 years ago from the Chicago area.  I decided to leave my career in banking when we moved to stay home with the kids and work part time at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I was a Girl Scout leader for six years and I also run a reading program for my son’s school.  I’m involved in a couple of running groups in the area and like to participate in races.

Throughout my life I’ve always had an interest in fitness.  I’ve tried things here and there but never was completely dedicated to any one thing.  I’ve been running consistently for about three years and it spurred a passion in me to take my fitness to another level.  I found GotEM Fit by joining a six-week challenge in October 2017 and never looked back.  The welcoming atmosphere and genuine attitude of encouragement from James and Amber helped to push me to participate in events that I’ve always wanted to do but may have been a little too nervous to attempt.  Since being a part of the GotEM family, I’ve completed five obstacle course races, ten 10K races, two half marathons and one full marathon.  One of those obstacle course races included the Green Beret Challenge which was a challenge of carrying, pushing and pulling everything from sandbags to a railroad tie.  I was on a team of four women and together we completed each challenge.  My next challenge will be a sprint triathlon in July 2019.  I feel like there is nothing I can try that I won’t have the full support of GotEM.  Being a part of GotEM has been a life changing decision for me.  It has led to the decision to become a Group Instructor.  I have received my Group Training Certification through The American Council of Exercise.  It means so much to me that James and Amber have given me this opportunity.  I have a lot of passion for encouraging people towards their goals and to help them find the belief in themselves to accomplish things they at one time would never think possible.  Since I have walked the same path as many people who come to the gym, I feel I can relate to people who are just starting out.  I look forward to helping people on a more one on one basis in the future as well.
